So my natural hair journey was very sudden and right before my high school prom. I am a college freshman on my second semester, and 7 1/2 months ago i would have never thought about going natural. In august of 2010
I decided that i had had enough of relaxers, they had always irritated my scalp but I didn't think twice about not getting a perm, frankly because I didn't realize that the relaxed hair that was on my head..was not my natural texture. I started transitioning in my twelfth grade year of high school. I was wearing braid outs and twist outs which I learned how to do from the one blogger EVERYONE who is natural or going natural knows : Mrs.Curly Nikki. I started co-washing my hair everyday and going to school with nice wavy hair. I was nervous about the idea of going natural. My high school was predominantly Caucasian and I was worried about how people would perceive me.
I started doing research way before I started transitioning and gathered a lot of information. One day my mother walked in my room where i was visiting Curly Nikki and she asked me why I was looking at the website and I told her that I was planning on going natural. LMAO..she stared at me then my hair...she asked me if I was sure and I told her of course. Well although she has had some words since I went natural she accepts it now and helps me with my products at times. I BCed on August 14th right before I would drive off to my first semester of college..my mother gave in and took scissors to my mane and WAS CRYING IN THE PROCESS while I was smiling. I am now almost on my 8th month for being completely natural and let me tell you that going natural in college is a experience. I love my hair and am very interested in helping other naturals in college because it is very hard to find blogs like these.
